Morocco Goats

The tree climbing goats in Morocco are a fascinating sight that attracts many tourists. These goats have learned to climb the branches of the argan tree, a thorny and prickly tree that produces a fruit with a nut inside. The goats are drawn to the fruit, which they eat and digest, leaving behind the nut. The nut is used to make argan oil, a valuable product for cosmetics and cooking. Some farmers encourage the goats to climb the trees, as they help clean the nuts and spread the seeds.  We saw these funny animals on our way from the High Atlas Mountains to Essaouria.  They were friendly, and the "kids" came up to us for treats.
