Ancient Night Glow

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel that contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, such as the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike.

The Acropolis is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop overlooking Athens, Greece. It is one of the most important archaeological and historical sites in the world. The Acropolis is home to several iconic structures, including the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, the Erechtheion, known for its Caryatid columns, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, an ancient amphitheater. The construction of the Acropolis complex began in the 5th century BCE, and it served as the religious and cultural center of ancient Athens. Pericles, a prominent Athenian statesman, initiated a building program on the Acropolis during the Golden Age of Athens in the 5th century BCE, which resulted in many of the structures we see today. The site has undergone restoration and preservation efforts over the years to protect its historical significance and architectural beauty, making it a UNESCO World Heritage site and a symbol of ancient Greek civilization. It is truly beautiful at night and I was fortunate to have this view from our hotel balcony in May 2023.
